Chair Message

On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Cathedral Basilica Foundation Newfoundland and Labrador, I would like to invite you to consider becoming involved with our organization at a truly transformative moment in its history.

The Foundation was created to steward the future of the Basilica Block, one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most important architectural, cultural, and historic landmarks. Following a period of uncertainty about the site’s future, we have been entrusted with the responsibility of preserving, activating, and sharing this remarkable place with future generations.

Today, we are building much more than a preservation project. We are creating a sustainable organization capable of protecting this nationally significant site while expanding its role as a centre for culture, heritage, education, tourism, and community engagement.

To achieve that vision, we are seeking individuals who bring experience, leadership, and a desire to contribute to something meaningful. As we continue to strengthen our governance, expand our partnerships, and build long-term sustainability, we are looking for people who are excited by both the responsibility and the opportunity before us.

This is an exciting time to become involved. Decisions being made today will shape the future of the Basilica Block for decades to come. Board members have the opportunity to help guide a bold and ambitious effort to preserve a landmark that tells the story of our province while ensuring it remains relevant, accessible, and vibrant for future generations.

If you are interested in helping shape the future of this remarkable institution, I encourage you to learn more about the opportunity and share some information about yourself through the link below:

Why Serve?

The Cathedral Basilica Foundation is stewarding one of Newfoundland and Labrador’s most significant historic, cultural, and community landmarks at a defining moment in its history.

The Basilica Block is more than a collection of heritage buildings. It is a place deeply connected to the story of our province, reflecting generations of faith, craftsmanship, resilience, education, culture, and community life. Today, the Foundation carries the responsibility of ensuring that this extraordinary site remains protected, sustainable, and relevant for future generations.

This work requires thoughtful leadership, diverse expertise, and people who are motivated by long-term impact.

The decisions made today will influence how the Basilica Block is preserved, activated, and experienced for decades to come. Board, Committee, and Working Group members play a direct role in shaping that future.

The Foundation is building the governance, partnerships, financial sustainability, and operational capacity required to steward a nationally significant heritage site. This is an opportunity to help shape an organization that will serve the community for generations.

We welcome individuals from a wide range of professional and community backgrounds, including governance, finance, fundraising, heritage conservation, infrastructure, law, communications, education, tourism, community engagement, and strategic leadership.
You do not need to be an expert in every area. What matters most is a willingness to contribute your perspective, experience, and commitment to the Foundation’s mission.

Strategic governance and organizational oversight.

Focused leadership and expertise in key areas of stewardship and organizational development.

Project-based opportunities that allow individuals to contribute specialized knowledge and practical support.

Join a Community of Stewardship
